South America is a vast continent that is home to a few of the wonders of the world. The content used to be controlled by ancient civilizations such as the Inca’s, who built spectacular cities that now rest as ruins for tourists to wander through. The indigenous population’s history is still engrained in the continent, and many of the top tourists destinations are related to ancient civilizations’ cultures.

  • The Galapagos Islands is the most interesting site to visit in South America. Humans have hardly touched the islands, and the wildlife is unique. Giant tortoises, lizards, seals, and penguins are just a few of the animals that roam the islands. Traveling to and staying on the islands is costly but the experience is worth it.
  • Machu Picchu is an ancient Inca city that sits on the highest peaks of Peru. The city is now a beautiful ruin of temples, homes, and other archeological sites. While the city is beautiful on its surface, the greatest allure may be the surrounding mountains and the trek up to the city. You can complete the trek up to Machu Picchu but train, bus or by foot.
  • Rio de Janeiro may not be engrained with the history of the South American content, but it makes up for it with white sandy beaches and a vibrant nightlife. It is an excellent vacation destination year round and is fun for both partygoers and sightseers. Carnival is a great time of the year to visit if you don’t need a lot of sleep.
